The Material, 118 West Studios, Simi Valley, CA

Had another great opportunity to shoot The Material this past weekend in Simi Valley. We met up before their headliner at 118 West and Jon and I did some exploring and found a great shooting space in their recording studio in the Attic, so we gathered the band and did some quickie, stripped down, promo shots. Then I got some good candids of them with fans and doing their set up for their performance. I also got one before and one after of the band with Noah as we bade him farewell and happy trails this weekend. Check them out and let me know what you think!

Communion, 1999.

Another from that studio workshop, my first studio children’s portrait. Everyone else went for the face, I went for the hands.

I love rediscovering old favorites on my desktop while the laptop is in repair, Aperture has been hiding some oldies but goodies.

Tuba, 1999

Another one of my favorites from that studio workshop many years ago. I may have just gotten back into shooting musicians, but as far back as I’ve had a good camera, I have pictures of musicians and it’s definitely something I’ve missed and it feels so good to be doing it again.

Trombonist, 1999.

My first studio workshop back in Cleveland and to this day one of my favorite musician shots.

I can’t wait to do more like this. Any takers, musicians?

Did a fun shoot that I previewed a couple days ago with JJ and Michael. We always tease them that they look like Victoria Asher from Cobra Starship and Jack Barakat from All Time Low, so we decided to do a photoshoot of them playing up the roles as Jack and Vicky-T as well as shooting some for the Cobra High contest. We had a BLAST in the studio despite me being sick as a dog. These were all shot on a digital back Hasselblad H2—almost as fun for me as the shoot was for them, playing with the big toys. {Also, be warned that there is crude humor inside as fits the roles of Mr. Barakat and Ms. Asher ;D It’s all part of the fun, no offense intended.}

I always rep it Cobra Style.

Part of a photoshoot that I did for JJ and Michael — Victoria and Jack?? You decide. At the end we did a shoot to enter into the Cobra High Yearbook contest. Cross your fingers, it would be SO sick to get a copy. More pics from this shoot coming soon—had a lot of fun turning them into Jack and Victoria!

Another one mucking around in photoshop, having some fun with my friend Michael’s lovely torso—turned him into a terminator in honor of his love of the movies (really the concept was Ray Kuzweil’s Age of the Spiritual Machines but, Michael does love Terminator, trufax.) Another experiment, tell me—what do you think?
